Decorating A Room For The New Baby

Expecting a baby is an exciting time, but it is also a busy one. One of the most exciting things to plan is the baby’s room. How are you going to decorate it? Which colors will be best? What furniture will you need? What home decor accents will you use?

These are just some of the considerations when planning a nursery. Are you having a girl or a boy, and are you going to stick to the traditional blue or pink color schemes? What if you don’t know if it is a girl or a boy? What color schemes can you choose then?

The second possibility is to decide on a color that will suit either a boy or a girl, like lemon, green, aqua or white. When the baby is born accents can again be added to bring in a more girly or boyish tone to the room. Whatever you decide, it is usually recommended by child psychologists that the room where baby sleeps should be mostly pastel shades to promote rest and peaceful sleep.

Choosing a specific theme is popular these days too, and can be successfully achieved whether you know the gender of the baby or not. Themes that are suitable for both boys and girls include nursery rhymes, animals, farms and gardens. The ever-popular Disney characters provide a great theme as well, and one that even a toddler would be happy to have. You will find wonderful Disney baby bedding, wall hangings, curtains and decals to use.

There is a huge range of nursery furniture available, so you will need to decide exactly what you will include in your baby’s room. Much of this furniture is very expensive, so consider second-hand furniture, available from friends, relatives or neighbors. If it is in good condition, all it will need is a light sand back and a fresh coat of paint, in your color scheme, to look  new. And, you have done it all yourself for your little one.

Once the walls are painted and the furniture is installed, all that is left are the finishing touches to personalize the room. Hang some pictures, possibly family photographs, add some cushions, hang a mobile or place a rug in the centre of the room. Choosing the bedding is another thing to think about when decorating the baby’s room; look for the stylish and cute designer baby bedding ranges in specialist stores. If your budget doesn’t stretch to these, keep an eye out for the sales and get some super specials.

Make your baby’s room a special place to welcome your new little one into your home and life.
