Baby Boomers have always enjoyed a privileged position in society, and they’re used to being catered to by others in their sphere of influence – whether the others were folks, instructors, or vendors and advertisers.  Having started life in affluent post-World War II nuclear families, and having worked for many years to create their own private economic security, they’ve already satisfied the basic levels of Maslow’s wishes pecking order : physiological needs, safety wishes and many of their relationship wishes and self-esteem needs .  However in doing so, many Boomers had to spend many years working in company America where they had to surrender their true deep-seated passions to the daily desires of the business world and the monetary wants of their young families.

Consequently, as they near retirement, they hope to make up for any goals that they surrendered during their working years. Motivations have changed as the Boomers have aged.  As enlarging numbers of Baby Boomers move into retirement, they’re most focused on meeting their self-actualization desires.  They have an interest in ‘being’ who they actually are, and developing (or expressing) their full potential in life.  To explain, they’re basically interested by self-actualization.

This means that they’re more inherently inspired than extrinsically motivated.  They are self-directed.  They will readily do activities, and make choices, that many would have evaded in their younger years because of what people might think.  Plenty of the things that would have bothered them – or perhaps stopped them – in previous years, do not even register a blip on the radar screen anymore.  They’ve mellowed, and they are happily traveling the path to inner peace.

For many Baby Boomers, that trail to self-actualization might mean starting their own company, returning to faculty to get an advanced degree, world trotting around the world, or chasing a variety of other creative or cultural passions.  Smart advertisers will recognize that Boomers are still an awesome force in the economy, with enormous purchasing power, and will tailor their goods and services – as well as their advertisements and promotional campaigns, their websites, and their social media to the Boomers generational cohort in techniques that assist them in achieving their dreams, save them time, and/or provide them with interesting life ‘adventures’.

So, if you are intending to kick off your own business, consider beginning a web business.  Most such programs , however , provide extremely limited coaching, focused solely on their product ( s ).  Sadly, you will need more than this.  Gain required success skills by signing up for our Online Success for Beginners training.
